Herp Conservation Unlimited Texas' Chapter urges other states to begin organization of their respective state chapters of Herp Conservation Unlimited. Reptiles and Amphibians continue to face great peril on many fronts including urban sprawl and commercial collection. We must act now if we hope to have any influence on herp populations, not only in Texas but across the nation.
Section 2: Subsidiary or local chapters of HCU may be created under the following provisions: (a) a subsidiary chapter must adhere to and adopt the constitution of HCU (b) subsidiary chapters must include HCU and a regional descriptor in their name (e.g. HCU-Texas) (c) members in subsidiary chapters: a. are encouraged to join the primary HCU b. may pay only subsidiary dues, to be set by the Board of Officers of the subsidiary chapter, with those dues not to exceed 1/5th the Associate rate of the primary HCU. Members paying only subsidiary dues will not receive newsletters or benefits of HCU. (d) are encouraged to adhere to the “responsible collecting ethics” (see Resolution 3) (e) a subsidiary chapter should focus on conservation issues of local interest, and refer broader conservation issues to the primary HCU The Texas chapter of HCU has laid the foundation for other states to follow suit. A web presence has been established as well securing server space for HCU-US.ORG which will host the Web sites for each state chapter. Send an email to
